A radio station, Cadena SER, part of the media group which has a stake in Real Madrid is reporting that Arsenal and Real have verbally agreed a fee for Patrick Vieira.
It is the same station that broke the David Beckham to Real Madrid transfer last year.
AFP are also reporting the story, saying Vieira has agreed a 4-5 year deal on 4.5m euros/ year.
Arsenal are refusing to comment.
Marca say that Arsenal will use the funds to buy Maniche ( who some say Arsenal have been tracking for a long time), although one early edition of the Mail mentions Valencia’s Ruben Baraja.
El Pais says Arsenal have set their sights on Argentine midfielder Mascherano, from River Plate.
The Sun reports that Vieira has put his £5m London home on the market.
It appears that the only straw holding out some hope (for those Arsenal fans who want him stay) is that Vieira is yet to agree personal terms. There has been reported disagreement.
The wires however are saying that personal terms should be sorted out in the next 48 hours.
It appears that the discrepancy between Vieira’s deal and the galacticos is set to be sorted out with an image rights package, bringing him parity, which is what he was holding out for.
Now it appears Arsenal can get on with the business of finding a replacement (s).
A large part of his expected imminent departure of course is down to Chelsea. Claude Makalele left a big gap in the Real midfield when he left last year. And their capture of Carvalho, and with Real missing out on Emerson brought the spotlight of inevitability on Vieira.
