Carabao Cup semis: Spurs v Chelsea/ Manchester City v Burton Albion

Arsenal 0 Spurs 2

Son 20    Dele Alli 59

Dele got a nice assist, an excellent goal and a yellow card.

And a plastic bottle, thrown from the crowd, bounced off his head, so you might say that Dele had a Dele Alli kind of night.

He was streets ahead of anybody else on the pitch and the obvious choice as the Man of the Match.

His killer pass allowed Son to score the first goal.

I knew Harry Kane would have a big impact if he came on because Spurs are dangerous when they’re 1-0 up and counter-attacking. At their best they can play very incisive and dynamic football.

Early in the first half Mkhitaryan played a  nice one-two with Ramsey but his shot was straight at 26-year-old Argentinian keeper Paulo Gazzaniga.

When Gazzaniga lashed the ball forward into the centre circle, Lucas Moura went for the 50-50 and fell and the ball broke to Dele, who released the speedy Son on the right side and the South Korean zoomed into the box and beat Petr Cech with a textbook shot into the bottom corner for 0-1.

One of Tottenham’s strong points is their very professional chance-conversion.

But when Sissoko played a one-two with Eriksen, his shot flew high over the crossbar, as I knew it would. When Iwobi clipped a low cross to Ramsey, his volley was well saved by Gazzaniga.

Second half, Kane came and within 66 seconds the England captain released Dele Alli, who finished with a flourish.

He took a touch and then jabbed the ball imperiously past Peter Cech with the outside of his right boot to clinch Tottenham’s first win at the Emirates Stadium in 16 attempts.

The first half wasn’t good football. Indeed,  I was staggered by how scrappy the match was.

At half-time I thought: Both teams have to improve!

Believing that Arsenal might win 2-1 or lose 2-1, I’d backed BTS : both teams to score.

ARSENAL?  A night to forget.

Unai Emery’s squad is work-in-progress.

Maitland-Niles had a nightmare at right back. Couldn’t trap a ball, cross it. or beat his man. Danny Rose was toying with him and that was hardly was hardly surprising, given AMN’s lack of experience.

Cech is past it & Bernd Leno isn’t a top four goalkeeper.

Seaman was, so was Lehmann. Cech and Courtois were at Chelsea, De Gea is at Manchester United.

At Stamford Bridge, Chelsea beat Bournemouth 1-0.

Eden Hazard came on in 61 minutes and scored the only goal of the game in 84.

Will Spurs beat Chelsea over two legs? I don’t know.

But the Carabao Cup Final should be a very good one.
