ANR reply from Darren B : Wenger doesn't trust Englishmen

By Myles Palmer

I don't buy that one bit. There's not evidence, you ignore counter evidence because it suits your argument.

Was Wenger really 48hrs from selling Cole to Palace or does our out of hand rejection of their bid simply not fit your story? The latter I think.

Ray Parlour & the back five shows that Wenger trusts Englishmen.

Wenger has had problems with foreign players don't forget! He's also backed and backed and backed Walcott but that does not fit your story so you fail to acknowledge it. Give your readers a balanced viewpoint !

Myles replies :

In the NME, Charles Shaar Murray once reviewed a Lou Reed gig that I saw. The gig was crap and CSM said that fans went to see Lou Reed do a shambolic, drugged-out show. Charlie wrote : If Lou had done a good gig, they'd have wanted their money back.

Same with me writing a balanced article. If I wrote series of 25 balanced articles, you'd read another website.

Seriously,  I'll write a balanced article when Wenger gives me a balanced team to write about, a team with an experienced international goalkeeper playing at Anfield in the first game 24 days from now. A team that can penetrate, excite me, and defend a 1-0 lead, defend a corner.

It's true that Wenger has backed Theo Walcott, who joined Arsenal as a 16-year old in 2006. He has to back him. What he really thinks of him, we don't know. If Wenger owns up that Theo has failed, he looks a fool.

My view is : Walcott has not made it. He has not improved. He has not developed. He has a brilliant future behind him. He was better at Southampton than he is now.

It's not that I don't like the lad, it's just that he doesn't impress me as a footballer.

Yes, Walcott has remarkable two-footed skills, lots of bottle and burning pace. And he's been unlucky. But he doesn't impress me as a footballer. He might improve at another club, in a completely different environment.

If Walcott produces as an Arsenal player this season, I'll change my tune very quickly.

The truth is on the pitch. Walcott didn't make England's 23. And Nasri did not makes France's final 30. Nasri then demanded an explanation from Domenech ! Malouda, a more experienced midfielder, had a very productive club season, while Nasri did very little.

Oddly enough, I do not see myself as a contrarian.

I see myself as a teacher who points out obvious things that other writers refuse to see or refuse to write about.

However, others see me in a different way and I get reminders of that from time to time.

Last week in the gym dressing room I was chatting to Dave and Jamil. Engineer Dave is a guitarist and a Pink Floyd fan who likes conspiracy theories, while businessman Jamil loves talking about politics, finance and the Koran. His brother is an economist.

I said, "When we form the next government, Dave can be Prime Minister, you'll be Chancellor. What will I be?"

"We'll put you in opposition," said Jamil. "You can attack us!"
