Nicklas Bendtner will get his chance against Newcastle.
For Tuesday night’s Carling Cup game, Wenger told Arsenal TV Online that, “You will see Bendtner, Diarra and Denilson. Maybe Eboue will be coming back as well.
“You’ll see Justin Hoyte and Alex Song maybe Eduardo and Diaby. Then there is Armand Traore and Lukasz Fabianski who we have not seen a lot of so far. We have sold out and we will put out a good team. We want to give the opportunity to our fans to see some unfamiliar faces.”
Most interest will surround Fabianski, who is 22 and has 4 senior caps. He understudied Artur Boruc at Legia Warsaw and won the title with them after Celtic signed Boruc. There is a whisper that AW believes the Pole will become one of the world’s top goalkeepers in the next two years. Clearly, if Wenger thinks Fabianski is the next Dave Seaman, he won’t buy a new keeper in the summer.
Fabioanski is a very calm character who has recently been moved by the club into the same street as Fabregas and Senderos. They live in Enfield, as does Traore.
Jens Lehmann has played twice and made two mistakes that cost two goals. He has been insulting about Almunia in public, which will not go down well with his manager. Only time will tell if Lehmann can regain his place.
Sam Allardyce will play his strongest team if he has any sense.
Newcastle are fourth after their best Premiership start for six years. With Owen crocked as usual, Obafemi Martins may partner Mark Viduka, if the ball-juggling Aussie is able to play two games a week.
After Lukasz Fabianski, the player to watch may be left winger Charles N’Zogbia, who set up two goals and scored against West Ham. If Arsenal win and have a run in the Carling Cup, we will be able to see how good Fabianski is.With a world class goalkeeper, the sky’s the limit for this team.
West Ham v Arsenal is on Saturday.
The Hammers are slightly better than Spurs but Arsenal can win 3-1 at Upton Park. They can play round Mullins, Noble and Upson all day long, I would have thought.
If Eduardo plays against Newcastle, and I hope he does, van Persie will play at West Ham. Eduardo’s link-play and work-rate are fantastic. He is tidy without being obvious, produding moments of nice disguise.
As I’ve suggested, Anfield on Sunday October 28 is the next big challenge.
Rafa is not starting Fernando Torres in league games but he’ll start Torres against Arsenal and that will make the contest interesting. But Gallas should be back by then. On recent form, Senderos makes more mistakes than Cygan.
Fortunately, Arsenal’s defence has not really been tested so far.
