Lille stopper Cygan will be made official today

By Myles Palmer

Memo to all Gooners:

A really decent bloke, very strong, very good in the air -that’s Pascal Cygan, Arsenal’s new centreback.

His capture from Lille will be confirmed at lunchtime.

The fee is NOT £5.5 million. It’s closer to £2.1 million.

Cygan was a longshot for France’s World Cup squad but did not make the 23.

If he is playing regularly for Arsenal he will have a good chance next season.

With Martin Keown staying another two years, Arsene now has three good centrebacks.

Can’t see TONY ADAMS getting the Watford job, about which so much has been written.

My tip?

Ray Lewington will manage Watford and get Steve Coppell in to assist.

I expect Tony Adams to announce his retirement in The Observer on Sunday.

Tony should take a sabbatical, or do his coaching badges, then become a youth coach or an assistant manager.Learn his trade.
