Liverpool scrape win after Foxes comeback/The Bodyguard defended

Leicester 1 Liverpool 2

Mane 10  Firmino 45 Ghezzal 63

———————————————-

When a Robertson cross hit Mane on the leg, the striker’s reaction was electric and he drilled the ball past Kasper Schmeichel.

Mane’s fourth goal of the season!

When Liverpool are in top gear it looks as if the penalty spot is the focal point of a magnetic field, as if it’s pulling Salah and Mane and Firmino forward into the box, as if it’s giving them all that urgency, that momentum, that unstoppable desire to get the job done.

Allison, the Brazilian Pat Jennings, made a good save and then held a corner by James Maddison, and big Virgil was looking like the coolest defender since Bobby Moore.

Right on 45, a twice-taken corner on the right that was  met with  a bullet header from Firmino from 11 yards,

On the replay we saw that the corner beat the big jump of Joe Gomez and the centre forward had a standing header that he placed very well.

HT SCORE: Leicester 0 Liverpool 2

In 58 Liverpool wasted a 4 v 2 situation that should have wrapped the game up.

Then Iheanacho replaced Albrighton, pinches the ball from the dawdling Allison and crosses low for  Algerian winger Rachid Ghezzal to shovel home in 63.

Leicester 1 Liverpool 2 : Game on!

Liverpool don’t have enough glue in midfield, not enough keep-ball expertise. Recognising this in 68, Klopp brings on Keita and Shakiri, with Henderson and Salah hooked..

VERDICT: Second half, the league leaders were outplayed at the Kingpower.

But they’ve won four games for the first time in 20 years.

When Klopperpool are good, they’re great. Very incisive and penetrating

But the team wasn’t good enough for long enough in this match. And Liverpool have a very challenging fixture list coming up after the international break.

At half-time I read an interview in The Times with Bodyguard creator Jed Mercutio and wondered: Is this a robust defence of his work or the most pugnacious interview I’ve ever read by a screenwriter?

We love the show and I reckon it’s the Beeb’s most compelling drama since The Night Manager.

Can’t wait for Sunday at 9.

Is Manchester United losing a bigger story than Spurs winning?
