Perisic/Hudson-Odoi/Pochettino/the battle for 4th place

Talking points.

Arsenal target Ivan Perisic was a fantastic footballer in Euro 2016.

And he helped Croatia get to the World Cup Final in Moscow..

A tenacious left-footed competitor, Perisic can score in very big games.

But Croatia peaked in 1998 and again 2018.

Perisic has won 75 caps but is now past his prime, which is why Inter want to sell him..

Post Wenger, the job at Arsenal was simple: improve recruitment and coaching.

Perisic is 30 on Saturday. You cannot be serious! You don’t rebuild a squad of crocks by signing 30-year olds a year after their final World Cup.

Mauricio Pochettino has to focus on top four because his squad has been decimated by injuries.

He is committed to the Tottenham project and Spurs need to be in the Champions League, where they have been quick learners.

Having said that, they are beginners compared to some of the big European clubs they’ve been facing in Group games.

Spurs need the cash and the profile, of course. But the longer they are in this demanding competition, the more experience will get in tight two-legged games.

However, the more games you win, the more people know about h=ow you play. The opposition is more wary of Spurs now than they were in 2016.

All along I’ve fancied Spurs to finish fourth.
Why? Because Emery and Sarri are new to the Premier League. They have now played every team once and a few twice.

Whereas Pochettino knows a lot more about the opposition because he joined Southampton in January 2013. He then took over at Tottenham in the summer of 2014.

Poch knows his players better, as well as knowing the league really well.

Liverpool and City have the two strongest squads.

But Man United can be third. And they might get a lot more points than whoever finishes fourth and fifth.

Bayern Munich have made four bids for 18-year-old Callum Hudson-Odoi of Chelsea, who do not want to sell him.

So the teenager put in a transfer request last week. Then Sarri started him in the FA Cup Fourth Round tie against Sheffield Wednesday at Stamford Bridge and the kid made it 2-0 with a goal as cute as Mo Salah at his most inventive.

I can see why Bayern want him. And why superstars are no longer the solution for them. Signing young talent makes more sense.
They tried to get Jadon Sancho but Dortmund made him a bigger offer.
