Rooney & Carra good value on MNF/ Watford outplay Chelsea

Monday Night Football was solid last night,

Wayne Rooney talked sense with Carragher before the Watford-Chelsea game.

Carra analysed the two Spurs penalty dives and showed that both were penalties.

First one is onside and a penalty: Lovren miskicks, Kane touches the ball past the advancing Karius but his right foot is touched by the keeper.

Liverpool had done their homework and knew that, in big games, Kane goes down the middle. So Karius stood up, didn’t dive. He stopped the ball with both gloves in front of his body.

Rooney said, “I always practice my penalties the day before a game. I pick a side and stick with it.”

On the second penalty, Van Dijk went to volley the ball away without seeing Lamela. As the opponent came into his peripheral vision, he pulled his leg back but still made the contact Lamela was looking for. The Argentinian went down, making a meal of it.

When that pen was given I was shouting, “Let Eriksen take it!”.

But Kane placed the ball on the spot and buried it for 2-2.

Rooney said, “If you stop Salah, you stop Liverpool.”

But who can stop him? His second goal, wriggling sharply inside the six-yard box, took him to within four feet of the near post. A very unusual position for anyone except Messi to be in.

And Salah finished with daring finesse, just as Messi would have done.

Watford v Chelsea ?

The clumsy Bakayoko got sent off and Watford won 4-1.

Already on a yellow card by the 29th minute, Baka took a very  loose touch, tried to recover the ball by lunging in against Richarlison. Both players got hurt, the Chelsea midfielder was sent off, Fabregas came on for Willian five minutes later.

After that, Courtois brought down Deulofeu in the box when he didn’t have to.

Deeney blasted the penalty past the big Belgian to make it 1-0 in 42 minutes.

Second half, I thought the ten men might just be able to draw the next 45 minutes 0-0.

In 82, Hazard scored after a nice move to make it 1-1.

After Janmaat made it 2-1 in 84, Deulofeu scored on his home debut with a shot that deflected off Cahill.

Then Pereyra made it 4-1 with a shot that went across Azpil and past Courtois in 91.

Maybe Bakayoko will cost Conte his job.

But of course there’s a lot more to it than that
