Spurs remind me of Arsenal just before we left Highbury

From Gerry Griffin :

It’s because I am a true Arsenal fan that I can say : Well done, Spurs.

They are playing the brand of football we were delivering regularly just before we left Highbury.

I began to read my [not very interesting] book while watching us flail around this evening against Red Star.

What a contrast in the two evenings.

Myles says:

Do you read fiction or non-fiction, Gerry?

I admit that I read 70% non-fiction plus Elmore Leonard and James Lee Burke and other crime novelists.

Jan reads Hilary Mantel and Peter Ackroyd in bed, she likes history. Was reading Maupassant last night.

We’d seen The Impressionists preview last week and she admitted she didn’t know much about the communards and the Prussian occupation of France. The story she was reading was about a Prussian who buys a country mansion but nobody will talk to them and the local priest says the church bells won’t ring till the Prussians go home.

The invaders get so bored and depressed in the big house that one weekend they go into town and bring back a load of prostitutes – and it all kicks off from there.

Personally, I haven’t read old Guy since the Seventies.

But still think he’s one of the best writers ever.
