Spurs will be OK when Kane & Alli hit form? Maybe…

At Vicarage Road on Sunday, Watford came back from 1-0 down to win 2-1.

And Elton’s favourite team deserved the points.

I thought Spurs stuttered for most of the game.

Where was all that automatic I used to see?

Dembele and Alli were playing in different positions, much deeper. But nothing clicked and they needed an own-goal to get off the mark.

Without Son, is Kane is becoming a target man who holds it up for Lucas Moura? With Dele deeper and playing a young Roy Keane role with long sprints and hard tackles?

Yes, teams evolve. But I’m hoping this performance was just a blip.

I used to like Tottenham’s rapid switches of play, when Kane & Alli had lots of shots and headers. That’s why I dubbed them the bang!bang! twins.

By the time Troy Deeney headed over a good chance in 18, I was asking: Is PochSpurs a machine that takes  8-10 weeks to get into gear?

After 42 minutes it was looking like a one-goal game.

Nobody had come close to scoring.

The $64,000 Question: Why is Lucas Moura up there with Kane? Is it because Kane can’t run as far or as fast as he did last season? Is this World Cupitis?

Kane was lethargic and static in England’s last three games in Russia. But he’s our captain, The World Cup effort was a good one but Harry was peripheral in our later matches, almost unrecognisable from the striker we saw in the early ones.

Back in Watford, an own-goal off the chest of Dacoure put Spurs 1-0 up in 55.

That was a scrappy goal in a very untidy game.

When a free-kick was whipped into the box Troy Deeney produced a clever glancing header for 1-1 and that goal won my bet on BTS.

I chose that bet because captain-keeper Hugo Lloris was out

But at this point in the game I’m thinking:  Watford are a momentum team and they can now win this match!

Spurs then allowed Craig Cathcart to score with a standing header from a corner. Two goals conceded in seven minutes

This is becoming historic!

Because Watfoird’s last victory over Spurs was in 1987.

Llorente and Winks then came on as subs.

When Trippier at last produces a killer cross, Kane mistimes a routine header over the bar.
